The Confidence of Knowing

Adjust First

As I sit here reflecting on today’s ICPA class, one answer keeps rising to the surface in response to nearly every clinical question: adjust first.

The immense neurological potential of a child’s developing nervous system must first be freed from the burden of vertebral subluxation before any other intervention is considered. This is not a philosophical footnote — it is the foundation. Adjust, observe, and give that little body the opportunity to express its God-given innate potential. My course is not flashy. It is not built around the latest technique trend or the most marketable clinical tool. It is built around the fundamentals of LACVS applied to our youngest and most vulnerable patients. I make no apology for that. In a profession that sometimes chases novelty, a return to fundamentals is its own kind of revolution.

I know of no better starting point for changing the trajectory of human health than a divinely created nervous system expressing its full, unencumbered potential. And that begins with removing the interference.

Stevenson included time as one of our chiropractic principles for a reason. Innate intelligence does not operate on our schedule. It demands patience, trust, and the willingness to step back and observe what the body does when the interference is removed.

Adjust first. Then get out of the way.
